The Hub partnered with Working Wales to organise a Work and Wellbeing event for “mid-lifers” aged 50 plus in Llandudno Town Hall. The Information Day focused on helping people stay healthy and independent with a range of exhibitors offering help and advice on finding work, upskilling, improving physical and mental health, advice and support on finances and household costs, advice on setting up a business as well as help with digital competency.

We also attended many events organised by key partners including Conwy Mind, Hope Restored, CVSC’s Wellbeing event, Dwr Cymru’s Cost of Living Events, an Over 50s event in Llanrwst, and a Health and Wellbeing Day run by the Rowan Organisation.

The Institute of Employability Professionals (IEP) held its first Regional Networking Event in Wales in May 2023. Sponsored by PeoplePlus but organised in partnership with Conwy Employment Hub and The Better Health Generation, the event focused on meeting recruitment demands in multiple industries and brought together the public and private sectors to share best practice. There were a range of speakers on various topics including the economy, skills, local economic provision, local social provision, youth employment and mental health.

Engineering Education Scheme in Wales (EESW) runs a number of activities providing learners with the opportunity to gain practical experience working with industries, businesses and higher education. One such activity is the design, making and racing of a model F1 car for those aged between 11 and 19 and we were delighted to be asked to help with the judging of the F1 in Schools North Wales Regional Competition for primary and secondary schools at Denbigh High School. 24 schools from across the region took part and the standard of entries was exceptionally high with learners showing not only their knowledge but also an immense amount of enthusiasm resulting in some very creative displays and designs.

We also helped judge M-Sparc’s Miwtini Bach Awards. Miwtini Bach is a programme for Year 5 and 6 pupils across Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey to engage with and learn about Entrepreneurship. The task includes designing and developing a product, pricing, marketing, creating a brand and pitching their final idea for funding. Six Conwy schools - Ysgol Porth y Felin, Ysgol Deganwy, Ysgol Pencae, Ysgol Pant y Rhedyn, Ysgol Capelulo, and Ysgol Awel y Mynydd - took part in the final which was held at M-Sparc’s offices in Gaerwen, Anglesey and the judges had a daunting task as the level of entrants was outstanding but the winning schools were Ysgol Deganwy and Ysgol Awel y Mynydd.
