Under the requirements of the Housing Act 2004 and Welsh Office Circular 30/2007 ‘planning for Gypsy & Traveller Caravan Sites’ all local authorities in Wales are required to identify the Housing needs of Gypsies and Travellers in its area and make provision for any needs identified.
The 2017 Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Needs Assessment identified no immediate need for residential pitches and a need for 7 transit pitches in Conwy.
During 2016 a new residential site was developed at Bangor Road, Conwy to meet the needs identified in the 2013 assessment. In relation to the transit site, as a preliminary stage in the identification of possible sites CCBC will shortly be carrying out a ‘call for Gypsy & Traveller sites’ in which it will be asking for landowners, agents and the public to suggest possible sites for consideration. The Council will then consider all suggestions and assess the suitability of the sites, with a view to identifying and seeking planning permission for a suitable site.
