Penmaenmawr Quarry produces a hard igneous rock, which is used as rail ballast, for road stone and making concrete.
Raynes Quarry near Colwyn Bay is the only quarry in North Wales that has a jetty. It produces limestone both for the local market and for shipping further afield.
St George Quarry near Abergele also produces limestone, mainly for the local market.
Minerals that are used in construction are known as aggregates. The North Wales Regional Aggregates Working Party produces annual reports on the state of aggregate production.
