Course details

  • Time: 10:00 to 13:00 (09:45 arrival for tea/coffee and registration) | 13:30 to 16:30 (13:15 arrvial for tea/coffee and registration)
  • Venue: Coed Pella, Colwyn Bay
  • Trainer: Training 2 Care
  • Targeted services: Community Wellbeing, Disability Team, Commissioned Services ( PIVs), Vulnerable People Team
  • Target group: Attendees would need to be working in a team where learning about Dementia is important to their post.

Course aims and objectives

Introduction to dementia:

  • Identify the different forms of dementia
  • Describe the risk factors linked to dementia
  • Sign and symptoms of dementia


Depression:

  • Understanding what is depression
  • Identify signs and symptoms of depression
  • How depression is diagnosed
  • Describe some of the more common causes of depression in people living with dementia


Minimising Risks

  • Describe what good person centred dementia support looks like
  • Identify strategies that can reduce the risk of having depression


Treatments and Support:

  • Explain the actions that should be taken if a person is suspected of having depression
  • Identify how to support a person living with dementia and depression
  • Identify avenues of support available
