Buoy washes ashore after storm
Conwy County Borough Council’s Harbours team rescued a stray buoy after Storm Perrick, and it's now on its way back out to sea.
The Conwy Fairway Buoy is normally located in the middle of Conwy Bay, marking the start of the Conwy Harbour approach channel. It weighs around 1.5 tonnes and is fitted with large weights to help it withstand rough sea conditions.
In the recent storms one of the securing shackles failed, and it was carried ashore by the wind and tide.
The Harbours team secured the buoy overnight, then retrieved it from the beach at Dwygyfylchi, winching it onto a trailer when the tide went out.
The buoy has now been repaired and will be back out on station this week, moored to the seabed.
The Harbours team service the buoys each year to minimise issues with the moorings.
