Case in Llandudno Magistrates Court, 29/10/24

At Llandudno Magistrates Court on 29/10/24, James Taylor trading as JMR Building was found guilty of a breach of Regulation 19 of Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. The defendant did not attend at Court and the case was proved in his absence.

Mr Taylor was fined £1,100 ordered to pay £369.45 costs, a victim surcharge of £440.00, and compensation to the victim in the sum of £2,950.00. This is a total of £4,859.45, to be paid in full within 28 days.

JMR buildings failed to provide the consumer with guidance and a notice of their right to cancel the works before they began, prompting Conwy County Borough Council Trading Standards Officers to pursue the business and place a case before the Court under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.

Cllr Geoff Stewart, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood and the Environment, said:

“As an authority we have a duty of care to protect our residents. This outcome highlights the hard work undertaken by Conwy Trading Standards Officers in applying the regulations to protect Conwy consumers”.
