Conwy Youth Service awarded gold Quality Mark for Youth Work in Wales (QMYW)

Conwy Youth Service has been recognised for the quality of its provision this week as the youth organisation is awarded the gold Quality Mark for Youth Work in Wales (QMYW).

Presented to the team at a special event held at Coed Pella, Colwyn Bay on 21 September 2023, the gold QMYW (administered by the Education Workforce Council (EWC)), is a national award which demonstrates an organisation's excellence. To receive the accreditation, youth work organisations must self-assess against a set of quality standards and pass an external assessment.

In achieving the gold Quality Mark, Conwy Youth Service demonstrated its strength of partnership working, use of management information, and creative use of resources in meeting the needs of young people. It also recognises and celebrates young people’s achievements, as well as the impact youth work and youth workers have made on their personal journeys.

Councillor Julie Fallon, Cabinet Member responsible for the Youth Service, said, “I’m delighted that the dedicated staff in Conwy Youth Service have achieved this gold status. To achieve bronze, silver, and now this gold award is testament to the skill, experience, and professionalism of the team.

“Around 300 attendees take part in sessions every week, and the Youth Service team can be proud of the impact they are having on these young people’s lives.”

Presenting the award to the Conwy team, EWC’s Development Officer for the Quality Mark, Andrew Borsden said, “It’s always a pleasure to award the gold Quality Mark to an organisation.

“During the assessment, Conwy showed how inclusive and diverse their service delivery is, and we must compliment the professionalism of the team in engaging young people in the Youth Work Quality Mark process.”

The EWC are currently recruiting QMYW assessors. You don’t need any specific qualifications to become an assessor, but it helps if you're passionate about celebrating youth work in Wales and have an interest in quality assurance.
