Safer Conwy installs new monitored CCTV across Colwyn Bay

Conwy CCTV Operators now have access to a series of new cameras across Colwyn Bay.

Conwy County Borough Council, working in partnership with West Conwy Neighbourhood Policing Team and the Bay of Colwyn Town Council, secured funding from the UK Safer Streets Fund.

The new cameras offer public reassurance through 24-hour monitoring, and will be used to gather evidence and target incidents including serious crime, criminal damage,  anti-social behaviour, graffiti, littering, dog fouling and fly tipping.

Councillor Geoff Stewart, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Environment & Neighbourhood said: "Our partnership approach and the innovation from our Community Safety and Public Protection CCTV teams is proving a vital part of Conwy’s commitment and drive to ensure residents and visitors across the County are safe and feel safe.” 

Peter Brown, Head of Regulatory Services at Conwy County Borough Council, said: “The continuing support of County Councillors and Town Councils in supporting CCTV projects, and maintaining and updating the public space cameras, is key in preventing and detecting crime and anti-social behaviour while providing reassurance to our communities”.

He added: “Conwy is opening up its CCTV service to other interested parties that would like to make use of the service. If your business or organisation would like to find out more please email cctv@conwy.gov.uk ”

Councillor Hannah Fleet, Town Mayor for Bay of Colwyn, said: “I welcome the addition of these cameras to our CCTV provision. They will help our residents to feel secure and to help us keep our streets, play areas and beachfront welcoming and clean for all.”
