We provide grit bins in urban and rural areas for local residents to use. The bins are usually at locations that have busy junctions or steep hills, but aren't on a First Priority Route gritted by our gritting fleet.

How to use grit effectively
You should only use the grit in these bins on the public highway; it is not for driveways or personal use. Spreading a small amount evenly over the road will clear most snow and ice.
Report a grit bin thief
In previous years there have been thefts from grit bins. This is a criminal offence and stops community-minded people from treating local problem areas.
