Launching your boat
If you would like to launch your boat or other watercraft along Conwy’s seaboard, here is information about what you will need to do to make sure you launch safely and legally:
Public launch sites for vessels
These slipways are available for public launching. Slipways and access ramps located at sites other than those listed are not authorised for general public use and are the subject of special arrangements.
Porth Eirias, Colwyn Bay, Colwyn Bay (LL29 8HH)
- All vessels - available for launching non-power, power craft and personal watercraft.
Beacons Slipway, Conwy Morfa, Conwy (LL32 8GN)
- All vessels - available for launching non-power, power craft and personal watercraft.
Penmaenmawr Slipway (LL34 6NJ)
- Non-powered vessels and powered vessels.
- No Jet skis or personal water craft.
- Used primarily by Penmaenmawr Sailing Club. Due to limited space only 10 launchings per day by non club members are allowed. Registration and launching is free for Penmaenmawr residents and members of Penmaenmawr Sailing Club. Visitors must register and pay the launch fee.
Llanfairfechan Slipway (LL33 0DA)
- Non-powered vessels and powered vessels.
- No Jet skis or personal water craft (due to the presence of dangerous underwater groynes).
- Free registration and launching for members of Llanfairfechan Sailing Club only. Visitors must register and pay the launch fee or hold a seasonal permit.
Venue Cymru Slipway, North Shore, Llandudno (LL30 1BB)
- Non-powered vessels and powered vessels.
- No Jet skis or personal water craft.
- Used primarily by Llandudno Sailing Club. Due to limited space only 10 launchings per day by non club members are allowed. Visitors must register and pay the launch fee.
- Trailers may be stored on the shingle, vehicles must be parked off the promenade.
Parking
Holders of a valid seasonal launching permit may park their vehicle free of charge at the Beacons car park and the Porth Eirias Slipway. This concession does not apply to any other car parks operated by Conwy County Borough Council.
Storm Gates
Access to slipways may be impeded by closing storm gates when operational procedures require this. The Beacons and Penmaenmawr slipways do not have gate restrictions and may provide an alternative launch site.
