The Council manages parking in our car parks and on-street paid parking. We also issue penalty charges for parking offences such as parking on yellow lines.
The Police are responsible for dangerous or obstructive parking.
Obstructing the pavement or road
Vehicles parked on pavements are a potentially dangerous street obstruction. Pedestrians are forced to walk along the road to get round the vehicles. This is a particular problem for pedestrians who are blind or visually impaired, wheelchair users, people with pushchairs and older people.

Obstructing a driveway
It is an offence to park across a dropped kerb, with some exceptions:
- A driver can stop to load and unload goods
- A driver can park in front of residential premises with the owner’s permission, if there are no parking restrictions on the road

If parked vehicles often block your driveway, you may want to apply for access protection markings at the entrance to your drive.
Parking on yellow lines, zig zag lines, at bus stops or in limited waiting bays
