This consultation closed on 25 March 2024.

Conwy County Borough Council intends to apply for planning permission for the proposed upgrade work to the existing recycling waste transfer depot building at Gofer Bulking Station, Abergele.

As part of this, we are running a pre-application consultation from 26 February to 25 March 2024 to understand your views on the development proposals.

Current situation

Gofer Bulking Station is a local authority waste treatment and transfer facility located in Abergele.  The site was constructed in 2006 then further developed in 2011.  The site receives kerbside collected recycling material from domestic properties within the Conwy County area (approximately 58,500 properties) and from Conwy County Borough Council’s commercial recycling collection service

What are the proposals?

The proposed improvement work aims to upgrade and increase storage capacity for deposited and prepared recyclable material. This will support the Council to meet current Fire Prevention and Mitigation Plan (FPMP) conditions as set by the regulator Natural Resources Wales.

The improvement work will also include constructing covered material storage bays to the north and west of the site, an extension to the existing building to house a materials sampling area, and relocation of the vehicle wash.
