'Sing and Smile' sessions come to Conwy County
Conwy Wellbeing team has been working with Goldies Cymru to bring singing and music sessions for older people to Conwy county.
Goldies Cymru is a charity that organises daytime singing and activity sessions with the aim of improving wellbeing for anyone who might be feeling lonely or isolated. Working with Conwy’s County Borough Council’s Wellbeing team, they have already run events in Rhos on Sea and Llanrwst for those over 50 years of age. Now their ‘Cynefin’ project is focussing on intergenerational sessions. The next event on 16 July will bring together older and younger participants when Ysgol Llandrillo yn Rhos primary school join to take part in a morning of singing and dancing.
Shelley Richardson from Conwy County Borough Council’s Wellbeing team said, “We’ve seen the benefit of bringing older and younger generations together in other events that we’ve run. The positive effects of singing for mental and physical health, means these sessions are not only fun, but are great for your wellbeing.”
Cheryl Davies, Goldies Cymru programme leader, said, “Our ‘Goldies’ volunteers have seen first-hand the difference these sessions can make to the lives of so many people, meeting new people and making social connection. We’ve had a couple of great sessions in Conwy County so far and we’re hoping this will go from strength to strength.”
The sing-a-long event is free, no booking necessary, and takes place on 16 July between 10.30am and noon at Rhos Church Hall, Colwyn Avenue, Rhos on Sea.
