The Cyber Essentials scheme identifies some fundamental IT security controls that organisations must have in place to defend against internet borne threats. It also helps demonstrate the Council’s commitment to cyber security.
Whilst the Council have had the necessary controls in place for some years and indeed already adopt more advanced security measures and testing wherever appropriate, the cyber essentials certification offers reassurance to citizens, businesses, elected members, officers and partner organisations that Council systems and data are protected from the most common internet threats including hacking, phishing and password guessing. The scheme helps organisations protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data stored on devices which connect to the internet.
