Family Centre refurbishment underway

Work starts this week to refurbish Llanrwst Family Centre funded through Welsh Government’s Health and Social Care Integration and Rebalancing Capital Fund (IRCF).

Based at Church House, Watling Street in Llanrwst since 2003, the Family Centre has supported hundreds of families, run thousands of groups, and provided a space for other agencies to deliver support to the local community, such as Welfare Rights, Universal Health Visiting Service and School Nursing offering drop in services.

Conwy County Borough Council purchased the building from Church in Wales in July, using funding from Welsh Government’s Health and Social Care Integration and Rebalancing Capital Fund (IRCF).

And in September, Welsh Government awarded Conwy Council further funding to refurbish the building.

Minister for Children and Social Care, Dawn Bowden said: “This is a fantastic facility already making a great difference to the lives of hundreds of families in North Wales.

“I’m pleased that our investment of over £600k from the Integration and Rebalancing Capital Fund (IRCF) will help the Centre to grow and continue their wide range of essential services to the community, and I look forward to seeing how these improvements will expand and rejuvenate this vital facility.”

The refurbishment will include reconfiguring the layout to make better use of the space, improving accessibility, and replacing windows to improve energy efficiency. The work is expected to take about 6 months.

Cllr Penny Andow, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Integrated Adult and Community Services, said: “The refurbishment work will allow the Centre to extend the services we offer to our families, and increase the opportunities for partnership working. We’re grateful for the Welsh Government funding to make this possible, and we look forward to welcoming all our families back into the new look Centre next year.”

The Family Centre’s activities and services will continue at other locations while the work takes place.
