SPF success for 31 projects
We are pleased to announce that thirty-one projects in Conwy are set to benefit from a share of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).
The UKSPF is a central pillar of the UK Government’s Levelling Up agenda and will provide £2.6 billion of funding for local investment across the UK by March 2025.
Conwy was awarded an allocation of over £20m to invest and spend by March 2025.
The overarching objective of the Fund is to build pride in place and increase life chances and the UKSPF aims to achieve this through three investment priorities:
• Community & Place;
• Supporting Local Business; and,
• People & Skills
The successful projects include initiatives that: promote adult numeracy; enhance the employability of people with a sensory loss; support volunteering; physical wellbeing, and improve community facilities.
Conwy County Borough Council has been working alongside the other North Wales local authorities to administer and manage the programme on a regional basis.
Cllr Nigel Smith, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Sustainable Economy, said: “I’m delighted that these projects will be able to do vital work in, and with, our communities thanks to this funding - I wish them every success.”
All projects will need to be fully completed and claimed by 31st December 2024 at the latest.
Robin Millar, Member of Parliament for Aberconwy, said: "Local groups, businesses and public services reach deep into the heart of our communities in Aberconwy. I am delighted that these UK government funds are being shared with them directly, in support of their invaluable work. I look forward to meeting the groups working Aberconwy to thank them personally. These grants follow last year’s £18.6 million Levelling Up grant for the Mor i’r Mynydd Active Travel route between Glan Conwy and Betws y Coed – and before that almost £2 million of UK government funds that was provided in Community Resilience funding.”
David Jones, Member of Parliament for Clwyd West, said: “The award of the £20 million plus additional funding from HM Government is excellent news for the people of Conwy.
“Coupled with the Levelling Up Fund, it is one of the Government’s levers for helping ensure that areas such as ours, which have experienced challenges, are given the opportunity to improve the lot of their residents.”
