The Social Housing Allocation Policy

Summary (optional)
start content

Social Housing is rented housing made available to people on a low income or with particular needs. Eligibility is based on need and local connection. Social housing providers can be Councils or Housing Associations. The Council must have an allocation scheme which gives priority to those in the greatest need.

Conwy Council no longer has its own stock of houses. Former Conwy Council housing is now owned and managed by Cartrefi Conwy, a housing association.

Social housing in Conwy is also provided by Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd, Clwyd Alyn Housing Association, Grwp Cynefin, North Wales Housing, and Wales and West Housing Association.

There is not enough social housing to meet demand. For most applicants, social housing will not be available quickly.

Applicants need only make one application to be considered by all social housing providers in their areas of choice. The allocation policy is the same across Conwy, Denbighshire and Flintshire.

Applications are made over the phone or in person to Conwy Housing Solutions. There is no application form to fill in.
