Summary (optional)
start content

Wow! Does this place have history…..The landscape is rich in historical remains, from the Bronze age copper mines to the Second World War artillery school, come and explore…Two walks start from the summit of the Great Orme (right by the carpark) which can be combined to make a longer walk. Don’t forget to look up for spectacular views of Liverpool Bay, the Carneddau mountains, the Menai Strait and Anglesey.

What kind of walk is it?

  • Terrain: Grassy paths, tracks and roads. The paths are steep in places, so good walking shoes and boots are recommended
  • Distance: Route A is 4.2 miles/6.7 km; Route B 3.2 miles/5.2 km. Allow 2½ hours for Route A, about 2 hours for Route B
  • Dogs: should be kept under control, or on a lead; sheep and goats graze freely on the headland
  • Refreshments: Available at the Summit Complex, which is open daily from Easter until the end of November, weekends only out of season. The Rest and Be Thankful Café (all year with a few exceptions) is at the far end of the headland, on the Marine Drive
  • Walk grading: Easy to Moderate
  • Map: If you want to purchase a map that covers this route, you will need the Explorer OL17. You can visit the Ordnance Survey website for more information or to purchase your map, or alternatively, these maps are widely available to purchase on the high street. You can download a route-card for this walk below, but we always suggest you take an OS map in addition to any leaflet.
