Craig y Don paddling pool is currently closed, whilst we undertake works to upgrade it.

Update:  All major construction work has been completed and contractors are now carrying out the final stages of their work when the weather allows.  The opening date for Craig y Don paddling pool will be confirmed closer to the time.

Location:  Craig y Don Paddling Pool, Promenade, Colwyn Road, Llandudno LL30 3AA.

This is one of the largest outdoor paddling pools in Wales. It measures 116m – 21m with a maximum depth of 2ft / 0.6m, and is very popular in the summer season.

Facilities on site include:

  • 'Pool Café' selling beverages, snacks, ice creams and children's soft toys.
  • Picnic tables and bench seating
  • Public toilets.
  • A children's park is also available nearby which is secured by perimeter fencing.

Free parking is limited on the promenade and surrounding areas so get there early to avoid disappointment. The local bus service passes through the site regularly with a short walking distance from each stop.

Due to daily maintenance work, the paddling pool will be open from 10am to 7pm.

How often do staff visit the paddling pools?

A member of the team visits all the paddling pools every day.

How are the pools kept clean?

The daily tasks include:

  • backwashing - this is when we reverse the flow of water to flush out any contaminants from the filter
  • making sure the water levels are at the correct height
  • checking and topping up the chemical sanitiser levels
  • cleaning the pool and surrounding areas

How is the water tested and how often?

Chlorine and pH readings are taken twice a day.  Microbiological testing is done on a monthly basis by an independent company.

Why do the paddling pools open at 10am?

This gives our team time to carry out the daily tasks.

Are the pools drained and refilled during the summer season?

The pools at Craig y Don, Penmaenmawr and Rhos on Sea rarely need to be emptied and refilled during the season.  Llanfairfechan is emptied and refilled more regularly because there is limited circulation.
