Green Dragon Environmental Standard
Conwy County Borough Council has retained Level 5 Green Dragon Environmental Standard certification for the tenth consecutive year.
The Green Dragon Environmental Standard is unique to Wales and is designed to promote good environmental management and to help organisations manage their activities in a way that impacts positively upon the environment.
Retaining the accreditation demonstrates that Conwy County Borough Council has been recognised nationally for their commitment to good environmental management, promoting environmental improvement, and taking responsibility for the environment seriously.
During the assessment, the Council was commended for many examples of good practice, such as the commitment to continually improving environmental management and the level of awareness of how their activities impact the environment demonstrated by staff across the organisation, from senior management to frontline staff.
Rhun ap Gareth, Chief Executive, Conwy County Borough Council, said, “Very few organisations of Conwy’s size and complexity are accredited to Level 5 across their whole business, and we’re proud to achieve this accolade.
“The standard demonstrates our commitment to continual environmental improvement and our objective to become net zero by 2030 as an integral part of our corporate plan for 2022–2027.”
“The standard brings many benefits to our organisation, including improved energy efficiency, a reduction in the Council’s carbon footprint, and improved environmental sustainability.”
Councillor Geoff Stewart, Cabinet Member for Environment, Roads, and Facilities, said, “By gaining this accreditation, we have delivered a priority action of Conwy’s Corporate Plan.
“It’s an excellent achievement and allows us to lead the way by embedding good environmental practices into our everyday lives, and in doing so, we are protecting the natural environment of Conwy now and for future generations.”
