Llanfairfechan Library put on the map
Conwy libraries were delighted to see that one of their projects was chosen to feature as part of Libraries Change Lives Week run by CILIP (Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals).
The Croeso Cynnes / Warm Welcome session at Llanfairfechan library is one of a number of similar sessions that run across all Conwy libraries after being set up during the cost of living crisis. A regular group still meet weekly at the Llanfairfechan sessions and have formed a strong friendship group.
The sessions at the library have been marked on an interactive UK map as part of ‘Libraries Change Lives Week’ (24-28 June) which aims to highlight the positive impact that Libraries can have and what they do for their local communities.
Claire Hodgkinson from Conwy Libraries said, “The majority of the group in Llanfairfechan live alone, care for partners with health conditions or have their own medical conditions. The sessions have provided an opportunity for members to check in on each other's wellbeing, offer support and advice, reminisce, discuss local events and news and enjoy a good laugh together.
“Most of the group members don't have access to, or knowledge of how to use a computer, and so the sessions also provide an opportunity for our library staff to help access websites, send emails and check information.”
