Five members of Conwy Youth Council attended the annual Young Wales Festival last month (16th November)
The event is organised by Children in Wales, the national umbrella body for organisations and individuals who work with children, young people and their families in Wales.
The five young people who are students are Ysgol Eirias, Ysgol Creuddyn, Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy and Coleg Llandrillo represented the Youth Council at the event which took place in Spark, Cardiff University Campus.
The Festival focussed on the importance of amplifying the voices of children and young people in Wales on the issues that matter to them.
The young people attending met with Rocio Cifuentes, Children’s Commissioner for Wales, and took part in a video link with Welsh Government Minister for Children and Social Care, Dawn Bowden.
They also attended workshops on a range of topics including social justice, climate change, education and training, mental health and wellbeing, and online safety.
Conwy Youth Council Member, Isobel, said, “It was my first time attending an event like this, so having the opportunity to have my voice heard on a national level was amazing.”
Cllr Julie Fallon, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Education, who has responsibility for the Youth Service, said. “Our Youth Service do great work with young people to build their confidence and help them to take a positive role in their communities. It’s wonderful to see this in action with the activities of the Conwy Youth Council, and the opportunity to take part in the Young Wales Festival.”
Conwy Youth Council is about young people having a voice and making decisions on projects to improve life for all children and young people in Conwy County.
