The Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales published their Final Recommendations Report for Conwy in May 2019 as part of their review of all Local Authorities in Wales. These recommendations were considered by Welsh Government and the Order to introduce the changes was made at the end of September 2021.
The aim of any Electoral Review is to provide for an effective and convenient local government, and which respect, as far as possible, local community ties. The recommendations are aimed at improving electoral parity so that the vote of an individual elector has as equal a value to those of other electors throughout the County, so far as it is possible to achieve.
Headlines
- Reduction from 59 to 55 Councillors (this results in a county average of 1,625 electors per Councillor)
- Reduction from 38 existing wards to 30 electoral wards
- Thirteen single member wards
- Seventeen multi-members wards (consisting of ten two-member wards; six three-member wards; and one four-member ward)
