Police and Crime Commissioners are accountable for how crime is tackled in their police force area.

The Commissioner is responsible for holding the Chief Constable and North Wales Police to account on your behalf, and will oversee how crime is tackled in North Wales and aim to ensure the Police are providing a good service.

Police and Crime Commissioner Elections 2 May 2024

In North Wales a Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) will be elected to represent residents of six counties/county boroughs.  This covers the following council areas:

  • Conwy County Borough Council
  • Denbighshire County Council
  • Flintshire County Council
  • Gwynedd Council
  • Isle of Anglesey County Council
  • Wrexham County Borough Council

Each area has a Local Returning Officer (LRO) who is responsible for arranging and delivering the poll to the electors in their area.  For the Conwy voting area the LRO is Rhun ap Gareth, the Chief Executive of Conwy County Borough Council

Police Area Returning Officer

  • A Police Area Returning Officer (PARO) is responsible for the overall conduct of the Police and Crime Commissioners Elections in a particular area.
  • Ian Bancroft, the Chief Executive of Wrexham County Borough Council, has been appointed as the PARO for the North Wales area in the Police and Crime Commissioners Elections 2024.  All formal notices will be published on Wrexham Council’s website.  Please visit Police and Crime Commissioner election to find out more information (external website).

  • The deadline to register to vote is Tuesday 16 April 2024.  Register to vote (external website)

Voting

To vote in a Police and Crime Commissioner election, you must be:

  • Registered to vote.
  • 18 years or over on polling day.
  • British citizen, an Irish, Commonwealth. European Union citizen or foreign citizen who has leave to enter or remain in the UK, or who does not require such leave.
  • Not be subject to any legal incapacity to vote.

Voter ID
