What is a polling district and polling place review?
This is a review of our polling district boundaries and their polling places. This is to ensure that electors have reasonable facilities for voting that take into consideration the needs of all electors. Under section 18C of the Representation of the People Act 1983, the next compulsory review must be undertaken within a 16-month window between 1 October 2023 and 31 January 2025.
Aim of the Review
We seek to ensure that all electors have reasonable facilities for voting. We also aim to ensure that, as far as practicable, all our polling places are accessible to people with disabilities. We are keen to have accessible and convenient polling places as most voters still vote in person. This in turn can help encourage electors to use their vote on election days.

Definitions
- “Polling districts” are geographical electoral areas into which wards and constituencies may be sub-divided.
- “Polling places” are the buildings or areas designated by the council where electors in a polling district go to vote in person.
- “Polling stations” are the number of issuing desks in the building or area that is the designated polling place.
