You may choose a naming ceremony for:

  • Celebrating the birth of a baby and welcoming the new arrival into the family
  • Joining together brothers and sisters
  • Families coming together
  • Welcoming an adopted child

The Ceremony will be conducted by a celebrant officer from the County who will assist in planning the content of the ceremony and advising of the many ways in making the ceremony both special and unique.  Essential parts will include introduction and welcome, reading, naming of the child or children, parent's promises, promises by supporting adults and closing words.  The ceremony can take place in the register office or approved premises.

Please note: The ceremony has a non-legal status and cannot be used to change the child's name.

Our officers will be pleased to explain the choices available and discuss arrangements for a Naming Ceremony. Please contact the Register Office for further details.
