Course aims and objectives
The Makaton training pathway consists of four Workshops, starting with Level 1. Each Level must be completed before progressing to the next.
Level 1 teaches the signs and symbols from stages 1 & 2 of the Core Vocabulary, with over 100 words and concepts to support communication about a person’s immediate needs and every-day activities.
Participants will also learn about what Makaton is and how it has developed, how it can be used in different settings and its relationship to Sign Languages and other alternative and augmentative communication systems (AACs).
The workshop is delivered online in real time and takes around 7½ hours. Training must be accessed with a Laptop, PC or Tablet with a camera, mic and speakers; Smartphones are not suitable.
Learners receive a Participants Manual to support their learning during the workshop and use as a reference going forward, along with additional digital resources and a videos of the Makaton/BSL finger-spelling alphabet. Each learner will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion.
