2020 – Rock barricade and Active Travel at Splash Point
£1.6M (Welsh Government Active Travel Fund)
We carried out work at the corner of the promenade at Splash Point (by Old Colwyn Arches) in early 2020. This was mostly funded by the Welsh Government’s Active Travel Fund to safeguard the active travel route and provide other active travel improvements in this area.
The work included:
- Rock barricade to protect the Victorian seawall
- Improved beach access ramp
- Priority crossing for pedestrians and cyclists
- Bicycle parking
- Bicycle repair station
- Disabled parking
- New benches and lighting
This corner was identified as being the most at risk area of the promenade. It was damaged in a storm immediately before the work began and would have collapsed without the intervention.
