As well as being a valuable asset in its own right, the promenade also carries or protects important infrastructure:
- coast road
- National Cycle Route 5
- main trunk sewer serving a large section of Old Colwyn
- main London-Holyhead railway
- A55 Expressway
If a catastrophic collapse of the sea wall took place at the start of a series of large storms, all this vital infrastructure could be at risk.
The Council is working with the Welsh Government and a number of other key stakeholders to provide the solution to minimise these risks.
