About the scheme
We are working to find a preferred solution for the Llandudno Junction to Glan Conwy active travel route.
The route will provide an active travel link from Conway Road, Llandudno Junction to Glan Conwy village, in line with the Welsh Government’s transport strategy.
What is Active Travel?
Active travel means making everyday journeys by walking, wheeling or cycling instead of using transport such as cars or buses. (Wheeling includes using a mobility scooter or wheelchair.)
It is a Welsh Government initiative to encourage healthier travel and reduce traffic congestion.
Active travel includes journeys made to work, school, college, shops and leisure facilities. An Active travel route has to connect to these places and be suitable for everyday journeys. Active travel does not cover routes that are only used for leisure or recreational purposes.
What is WelTAG?
Welsh Transport Appraisal Guidance (WelTAG) was produced by Welsh Government to use when developing, appraising and evaluating any proposed transport intervention. It is a process which must be applied to all transport projects which are funded by Welsh Government.
WelTAG embeds the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 and considers economic, environmental, social, and cultural impacts.
We prepared a Stage One (Strategic Outline Case) report in September 2021. We discussed and agreed the outcomes of this report with a Review Group held on 10 September 2021 and Stakeholder Workshops.
We are now carrying out a Stage Two study. We have identified the existing problems and opportunities within the study area, and the scheme objectives. We have identified and reviewed potential solutions, which we are appraising.
