Keeping your family safe online – it’s never too soon to put things in place to keep children and young people safe online. Here are our top tips on online safety:

Family Checklist:

  1. Parental Controls

What devices do your children access?

This step by step guide will help you to set up the right controls and privacy settings on the networks, gadgets, apps, and sites they use to give them a safer online experience:

  2. Safe Search

Do your children use search engines?

Most web search engines will have a ‘SafeSearch’ function, which will allow you to limit the content your child is exposed to whilst online. Look out for the ‘Settings’ button on your web browser homepage (often shaped like a small cog). Your child can also use child friendly search engines such as KidRex, Kiddle and Swiggle

  3. Social media and apps

Do your children or teenagers use social media?

There are so many apps out there, it’s hard to stay on top of it. Before a new app is used by your child, check out how safe it is here: In the know - the latest on apps, social media and games for families

  4. Online gaming – know what is safe

Do your children take part in online gaming

All games have an age certificate, and they are not suitable for children younger than the recommended age. Childline helps you understand online gaming, the good bits, the risk, and how to keep your children safe.
