Coastal Defences
The coastal defences will consist of an offshore T-shaped breakwater, extending 100m into the embayment and extending 90m in width between the two existing groynes.
At the same time, we would import approximately 55,000mᶾ of shingle (20mm to 100mm in diameter) to sit in front of the seawall.
The breakwater will ensure that new material is less likely to be transported from west to east over time, increasing the level of protection to the seawall.
Promenade Improvements
As well as improving the coastal defences, we want to make improvements to the promenade to maximise the benefits of the scheme.
The proposals include:
- resurfacing the promenade
- repairing and improving the existing stepped beach access
- building a new accessible ramp at the eastern end
- relocating the car parking
- installing a pedestrian and cycle crossing point on Glan Y Mor Road
Planting
New waterfront planting will include:
- improving the existing community gardens with additional native species planting
- wildflower planting on some of the grass verges along Glan Y Mor Road
Street Furniture
New street furniture will include:
- Benches
- Cycle stands
- New hand railing
- Beach shower
Roads and Access
- New pedestrian and cyclist crossing on Glan Y Mor Road
Ecology
The proposals will include rock pools created within the offshore breakwater and existing groyne to encourage an increase in biodiversity.
