Consultation

The pre-application consultation ran from 22 November to 20 December 2022, with plans available to view on the Council website, at Kinmel Bay library and at a public drop-in event on 8 December 2022 at Towyn and Kinmel Bay Town Council Community Resource Centre.

Summary of consultation feedback

  • 35 people attended the drop in event.
  • We received 15 responses from the feedback form on our website, and 13 paper copy responses.
  • We also received 18 emails with comments from the general public.
  • We received comments strongly supporting the proposed coastal defence improvements which will remove residents’ constant worry of flooding.
  • There were comments about the risk of flooding from local rivers, which are the responsibility of Natural Resources Wales and separate from this scheme.
  • Some people raised concerns about the height of the proposed sea wall restricting views, including from the holiday park and for children on the coastal path.
  • Some residents were concerned about parklets or shelters becoming a focal point for anti-social behaviour.
  • Other comments related to ecology, wanting minimal disturbance of dunes and advocating for local materials and plants.
  • Positive comments were received about planned accessible ramps and handrails for beach access.
  • Some concerns were raised about the mixing of cyclists, pedestrians and mobility scooters on the shared use path.
  • Other feedback including issues relating to dog waste, litter bin provision and road disruption during construction.
