Summary (optional)
An overview of what the Autism Outreach Team in Conwy offers.
start content

The Autism Outreach Team comprises of a team of Specialist Teaching Assistants, who are experienced in working with children and young people with autism and neurodivergence.  The team is line managed by a Senior Educational Psychologist.

Who is the Service for?

The team works across all Conwy Primary Schools, providing an advisory service for teaching and support staff in mainstream primary schools in Conwy.

(Following a period of consultation, funding for this area is delegated to secondary schools who use the funding for their own support ‘in house’.  Each school will be able to provide information about how this support looks/is coordinated in their own individual setting.)

What do we do?

The service aims to support Conwy schools in their understanding of and provision for children and young people with autism and associated neurodivergent profiles.  This may happen through:

  • observations in the school setting;
  • development of targets/objectives;
  • advice on environmental adjustments;
  • development and advice on specific intervention   programmes;
  • staff training and skill development;
  • written reports and recommendations;
  • Informal telephone and online advice;
  • EarlyBird training for parents and schools.

How are we accessed?

The service has referral criteria which schools must demonstrate has been met when completing the service referral form.  These access criteria can be found in Conwy’s ALN Principles Document.

Schools must obtain parental consent to make a referral.

Once the referral has been accepted the team will work with the school to set up the most appropriate ways of offering support.
