  • Targeted services:  Disability Team, Family Support and Intervention, Older People and HSW, Vulnerable People Team 
  • Target group:  The sessions are aimed at any professionals working within Conwy Social Services with adults in social and health care who are required to undertake capacity assessments

Course aims and objectives

The session aims to equip attendees with applying the legal framework of the Mental Capacity Act to the practice of assessing an individual’s capacity.

The sessions are aimed at any professionals working with adults in social and health care.

Course content:

  • Brief overview of the legal framework and relevant case law.
  • Practical skills of preparing and undertaking mental capacity assessments.
  • Understanding and applying the functional and diagnostic assessment.
  • Skills of triangulating information in order to analyse and make conclusions about capacity.
  • Applying the causative nexus.
  • Facilitate a discussion on the complexities of mental capacity.
  • Sign posting to useful resources.
